Abhinav Bindra wins gold medal in Men’s 10m Air Rifle

(BEIJING, August 11) – India’s Abhinav Bindra won the gold medal in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle in Beijing on August 11 with an incredible performance in the final. Bindra shot a total score of 700.5.

China’s Zhu Qinan, gold medalist at Athens 2004, won the silver medal with a total score of 699.7.

The bronze medal was won by Finland’s Henri Hakkinen, who was leading the field after the qualification round, but was unable to hold off Bindra and Zhu in the final.

  3. I am surprised.. simply cos i dint expect. Yesterday I was discussing how 10m rifle shooter and judokas are crashing out of the biggest games carnival. I’d bet that Indians go out to avail facilities and sports quota in government jobs. Glad that my opinion does not hold for all those representing India in Beijing. Kudos Bindra!!

  9. And out of 110 crore, only one managed to earn a GOLD and that too after 28 years!!!

    So I am confused whether to celeberate this or feel ashamed of it!!!

    Still gud luck to others and it might prove to be the first step to Indian glory in olympics 2008!!!

  11. i was having lunch in Shanghai when i got a call from my chinese collegue who informed me that India just won a GOLD medal, i couldnt hold my excitement and i started to feel on the top of the world, no words can describe such a feeling..
    and on a personal note i would like to extend my heartful congratulations and thanks to Bindra for keeping the faith alive and making all indians proud of his remarkable feat.. kudos to dear bindra.. hats off to you..
